You also need to account for your packaging, time & gas to go to the post office, etc....Feed Source: CraftyVixens.tribe.net Re: I couldn't have done this with you! - check out the sizes of the post office's flat rate boxes to get an idea of how much you can stuff in a box and charge accordingly.... Re: I couldn't have done this with you! - Thanks, there's more on the way check back in a few days, you'll be pleasantly surprised!... Re: I couldn't have done this with you! - Thanks so much, I'll check out your site right away! I don't know about the shipping stuff, so I'm taking shots in the dark there. Someone told me just to "up" my prices & absorb shipping that way, but as it costs differently to ship to different places, I'm unsure how to proceed.
banner is an issue! My logo/company name etc., weren't etsy compatible, so I've got the logo designer working on that, too
REALLY appreciate your input! Thanks, & keep it coming ANYTHING that comes to mind! :^)... Re: Sewing Machine Recomendations.... Anyone? Anyone? - There's also the Jean-a-ma-jig, which does basically the same thing: http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?pageName=search&flag=true&PRODID=prd2995... Re: I couldn't have done this with you! - Nice job! Lovely photos!... Re: I couldn't have done this with you! - Be sure to complete your Shop Policies section -- this covers everything from Payment Methods accepted to shipping time frames to refund/return policies. Better to have those things thought out so you're comfortable with them before you need them. Here are my Shop Policies, to give you an example: http://www.etsy.com/shop_policy.php?user_id=5611328
And just a little note but your banner could use some color/pizazz. Your photos of your products are so beautiful, colorful & vibrant that your banner doesn't do them justice. There are a lot of digital artisans on Etsy that can create one for you, too, at a very fair price, if that's not up your alley.... I couldn't have done this with you! - Finally, & at long last I got my Etsy site up .. Thanks to everyone who's given me feedback of ANY kind!
You were all so positive & encouraging I feel nurtured by Crafty Vixens! thanks again, & go check out my stuff, if you'd like
I'm still in need of sales, but want YOUR feedback more than anyone else's .

Have a tremendous day!... Re: Sewing Machine Recomendations.... Anyone? Anyone? - Thanks ladies!
Hay, that little hump jumper looks great. I'm going to get one.
As for what I'm doing . making jeans and jean jackets, draperies, light upholstery work, making weekend/overnight bags and shopping bags, etc. Just things for us. Nothing very heavy duty but definately sturdy stuff. Like I said the several layers of jeans is the big thing. I've found in my past machines if they could handle the jeans they could also handle anything else I wanted them to do including some leathers. The new machines all seem to be for light weight work. Am I the only one that makes jeans anymore?
Anyhoo thanks so much! Any other recomendations? Anyone?... Re: Sewing Machine Recomendations.... Anyone? Anyone? - If it's something you do a lot, an idustrial machine is worth it, but even then, when you're sewing over seams, you can have trouble. This little tool is amazing! http://www.sewforless.com/item/The_Hump_Jumper/5367/c43 Simple little piece of plastic, but it really helps when you're crossing seams!... Re: Sewing Machine Recomendations.... Anyone? Anyone? - I don't know about denim, but I have been very sucessful using my mom's Huskvarna machine for doing multiple layers of upholstry fabric for costuming. Right now I have a Costco Singer machine and it works pretty well with thick layers, though I suspect it just wouldn't have that extra "umph" for getting through thick layers as Kathleen mentioned, you would need a decent motor.
I don't know how gigantic a project you're doing but I've also had great success by using an awl to pre-poke the layers on some of my projects (like leather and super thick canvas) and then carefully sewing them on the machine through the holes. Mind you this was for small projects though, and it was a little time consuming.... Re: Sewing Machine Recomendations.... Anyone? Anyone? - To sew multiple layers of denim, you'll need a big motor to push the needle through. An industrial machine is the only thing I know that can do that. To sew leather, a walking foot is helpful. Leather can crawl miserably and a walking foot can help with this because the top and bottom move at the same time. You can sometimes get used industrial machines at sewing machine repair places. I love industrial machines and worked on them for years in costume shops. It's hard for me to work on home machines now!... Sewing Machine Recomendations.... Anyone? Anyone? - I thought my Crafty Vixens would have the answers, so here I am asking for some help ..
I'm looking for a sewing machine that's great with sewing multiple layers of denim (for making jeans, jackets etc), canvas and some leathers. I haven't been able to find anything except those huge commercial table machines that need a whole room of their own. I know White used to make Jeans Machines that did everything I want, but I can't find one anywhere. There has to be another machine out there that'll do the work. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Anyone? Anyone?... Know any artists/crafties in the Crockett area? - Know any artists in the Crockett area? A friend and I are working on this event:

thanks for the advice I cannot stand E6000 .I get literally SICK after being exposed to it. Open window or not.
but sometimes I use it anyway because it's the best.... Re: Cooking recipe holder? - Here's a site that has some good info: http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/001422.html
One great idea is to utilize the great publishing sites available out there, like Lulu or Blurb: http://www.blurb.com/create/book/cookbook
The software is free and they have tons of great template you can use. Printing is cheap and you can get a very professional-looking product.... Cooking recipe holder? - i have a friend that basically has written her own recipe book by saving all of her recipes for years and then putting them all into pagemaker or something and printing it out. has anyone else done this? what a great idea. has anyone else done this? i don't know why im asking but if i was better at those programs it would be great to put a template together and start one of these. anyone good with those programs want to create a simple template?... LIVE ONLINE BELLYDANCE COSTUME WORKSHOP VIDEO CONFERENCE - Hi everyone,
I just wanted to let you know that I will be implementing a live online video costume workshop. You will be able to log in from any city that you are in. Each workshop is for 2.5 hours and we'll go through each part of the costume making process weekly. You will be able to see, ask questions, and/ or offer feedback to everyone who is logged on for the session. It's a very simple process; I would like to make D-I-Y costuming help even more accessible.
The workshop is for all levels. I think it would be great if experienced costumers as well as novices joined in because we'll get a chance to meet eachother "face to face" (via the internet!). You can join a single session or register for the series- whatever fits your schedule/pocket$.
If you're interested, please go to my site www.cocoabelly.com and click on "online costume workshop" for all the details, schedule, and for examples of costumes I've made.
Thanks so much and I hope to see some of you there---o... Re: Memorial Journals - otherwise, I would opt for E6000 (and an open window)... Re: Memorial Journals - rivets could be interesting... Memorial Journals - Instead of a guest book at my Grandmother's Memorial (she passed on in February), I have decided to do something a little different.
Our family is not close on my Mom's side of the family, and we are a small family on that side
I decided that mini handmade journals sent to each family/friend who are attending, or not attending, prior to the day of the memorial was so they could write their thoughts down was a good idea for many different reasons:
It helps people who don't like to get up in front of a large group to share their memories with others, should they wish to do so. If they will not attend, it makes their thoughts about her known, if they wish to share them with family and friends. Small drawings, enclosing photos of them together, or just of my Grandmother.
Then at the memorial, we will all place them on the table so people can pass them around and peruse them at their leisure throughout the day. It takes some pressure off, and I can't wait to see the results.
